A lot of staff are using Quizlet at the moment, so what is it?
Quizlet is a website that teachers and students can use to create study sets – these are excellent for personal revision. Once you have added terms and definitions, you can use Quizlet to create flashcards, tests and games to help learning.
Quizlet is web-based, so it can be accessed using any device – desktop computer, laptop, Mac, PC, iPad, iPhone etc. There is also an app available for use on mobile devices such as iPads and iPhones.
To sign up for a free account, go to quizlet.com. You can then create your study sets using relevant terms from your subject, and then share them out to your students using a link. This website shows you how.
Quizlet Live is a new feature, and brings the study sets into use in the classroom. It is a classroom game where students play in teams and compete to answer all the questions correctly before the other teams. You need at least six students in order to play the game. This video from Quizlet’s website tells you more about it.
I saw Quizlet Live being used with a C Biology set. They had been given the study set by the teacher to learn as their assignment. At the start of the lesson, they then used Quizlet Live to reinforce their learning. They played three rounds, each on in different teams, and by the third round there was not a single wrong answer!
So, if you’re looking for something to try with your classes this term, give this a go.
